The Department:
In the Pathological Anatomy Laboratory in Thessaloniki, tests are conducted both for diagnostic purposes (e.g., identification of lymphoma, carcinoma, melanoma, etc.) and for determining prognostic factors (e.g., ER, PR, Cerb-B2, Ki67).
Histological examinations are performed on biopsies and surgical specimens from all organs and systems (e.g., stomach, intestines, lungs, breast, prostate, lymph nodes), and there is the capability to receive specimens from all over Greece.
Additionally, consultative reporting (second opinion) is available for the full range of examinations.
Examinations:
Histological, immunohistochemical, and histochemical examinations are performed on:
Surgical specimens of organs or tumors from all systems
Skin lesions
Lesions visible on X-rays, CT scans, mammograms, or ultrasounds
Immunohistochemical investigations for tumor identification
Prognostic and therapeutic markers in breast, colon, and lung cancer
Lesions identified through endoscopic methods, such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, cystoscopy, laryngoscopy, or bronchoscopy
Diagnosis of hematological or other neoplastic diseases from lymph node and bone marrow biopsies
