Digital Mapping, Dermoscopy, and Mole Examination

What for

Digital mapping of moles is the most reliable method for the early diagnosis of skin cancer.

At Affidea Dermatology Clinic, we use the digital dermatoscopy and mapping system Ftofionder (Vexia medicam 1000s), the most reliable system worldwide for the early detection of skin cancer and for diagnosing and documenting various skin lesions and conditions, including those affecting the skin, nails, and hair.

Dermoscopy

Dermoscopy is a non-invasive technique used in diagnosing pigmented and non-pigmented skin lesions. By using a specialized microscope, it reveals morphological characteristics of lesions that are not visible to the naked eye and that lie beneath the skin's surface. In recent years, the role of dermoscopy has become increasingly important in diagnosing malignant and benign skin lesions, as well as inflammatory conditions and diseases affecting the nails and hair.

Dermoscopy is a method that allows for the diagnosis of malignant melanoma at a very early stage, provided that the dermatologist has the appropriate equipment, training, and experience. Skin cancer is treatable if diagnosed early.

Mole Mapping

Using a specialized camera connected to a computer, systematic recording and digital imaging of all moles on the body are performed at intervals specified by the dermatologist. The goal is to monitor these moles and compare the images over time.

This allows for the detection of changes in existing moles regarding size, color, and shape, both macroscopically and dermoscopically, as well as the identification of new lesions.

Routine follow-up examinations enable the immediate detection of new and changing moles. The examination is completely painless, free of radiation, and suitable for all ages. Mole mapping is a life-saving examination!

What the advanced FotoFinder system can do:

  • Detailed recording of each mole individually

  • Early detection of new moles, even minimal changes in the morphology of the mole can be identified promptly

  • The results and images of the mapping are stored and can be compared in future follow-ups, providing information on possible changes in existing moles

  • Systematic monitoring of moles, which is the best way to prevent skin cancer

  • Utilizing cutting-edge technology, precise recording of moles is achieved, even in areas that patients might not be able to detect

The machine is operated by a Dermatologist-Venereologist with expertise in Melanoma and Dermatologic Oncology from the University of Tuebingen, Germany, holding a Doctorate from Eberhard Karls University of Tuebingen, Germany, and a former Head of Dermatology.
